Video module 5

In a vehicle without rear compartment equipment, the video module 5 provides the ”television” and ”videotext” functions.

Brief description of components

Video module 5

Video module 5 contains a TV receiver and a switchover facility for the video, audio and RGB signals. The video module activates the Control Display (CD) with display unit Central Information Display (CID) via RGB lines.

After the MOST has been wakened, the video module automatically recognizes the navigation system as a component part of the overall system and responds accordingly.

The video module 5 is a control module with diagnostic facility in the MOST framework.

Control Display (CD) and Central Information Display (CID)

The Control Display (CD) and Central Information Display (CID) are separate components. The Control Display (CD) with the Central Information Display (CID) and the Controller (CON) contains the operation and display elements for the vehicle electronics, with the exception of the ADP functions.

The Control Display (CD) co-ordinates the function requests from the system and assigns them to the individual functions. For the Control Display (CD), the following is displayed on the tester:

The Central Information Display (CID) is the display unit. For the Central Information Display (CID), the following is displayed on the tester:

Controller (CON)

The Controller (CON) is the control element for the Control Display (CD) with the display unit Central Information Display (CID). To run operating functions, the front Controller (CON) is folded out of the center armrest.

Rear-window antennas

The rear window incorporates TV antennas on both the left and right sides in the rear-window defroster.

Antenna amplifiers

To amplify the received TV signals, separate antenna amplifiers are installed for the left and right antennas. The amplifiers are supplied with power by video module 5 via the HF line.

Audio System Controller (ASK)

The audio system controller (ASK) is a control module in the MOST network. The ASK is the system master. The audio system controller (ASK) is responsible for management of all audio signals.

MOST bus

The MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) bus links the audio, video and navigation systems. Information relating to function requests is transmitted to the relevant control modules by means of MOST bus messages.

Main functions

Antenna diversity

The ”antenna diversity” function integrated in video module 5 always ensures the best possible reception when the vehicle is stationary. In this procedure, video module 5 always selects according to specific criteria the antenna that offers the best reception.

TV reception with videotext

Picture signals: The video module 5 sends the picture signals across RGB lines to the Central Information Display (CID).

The picture signals are sent by the navigation system to the video module 5. The video module 5 contains a selector switch that toggles between navigations picture / menu and TV picture with the corresponding request.

Sound signals: The sound for voice output of the navigation system is switched through on the output of the AF lines to the audio system controller (ASK). Switching through takes place in accordance with the operating mode.

The video module 5 is connected via the MOST bus with the audio system controller (ASK). The ASK outputs the amplified signals through the speakers.

With navigation

The graphic is set up by the navigation computer on the Central Information Display (CID) (user interface).

The picture data are looped by video module 5 through the navigation system. The sound signals are transmitted by video module 5 directly on the MOST bus.

Video module 5 is connected via the MOST bus (sound and control signals) and RGB picture data to the navigation computer.
