During the shift procedure, the EGS control module sends a signal to the DME control module resulting in the ignition timing been set in retard direction and thus a reduction in torque. This measure ensures a smooth transition to the next drive stage.
As soon as the torque converter clutch is closed, the DME control modules switch over to a different ignition characteristic map.
