The fuel pump is activated depending on consumption with a pulse-width modulated signal. That means that the delivery volume of the fuel pump is adapted to the current fuel consumption. This results in the following benefits:
-lower current required by the pump
-lower fuel warming
-longer service life of the pump
-elimination of the EKP relay
The activation is calculated in the DME. Via CAN, the DME notifies the control module A158 satellite B-pillar right. This control module electrically activates the fuel pump (see circuit diagram). If there is a failure in communication, the fuel pump is operated with the highest supply volume so that it provides sufficient fuel in all operating states.
