Crankshaft Position/RPM Sensor DDE

The inductive rpm sensor is screwed into the side of the engine block. A sensor gear with 58 teeth (60 teeth with a gap of 2 teeth) that moves past the rpm sensor is mounted on the crankshaft. The DDE control module evaluates the resulting voltage signals for the purpose of calculating the engine speed.

The speed sensor signal is used as a measured variable for:

• Exhaust-gas recirculation
  
• Checking start conditions
  
• Calculating start volume
  
• Start of injection control
  
• Checking switch-on conditions for air conditioning system
  
• Calculating limitation volume
  
• Calculating external delivery rate intervention
  
• Injection rate control
  
• Rail pressure control
  
• Idle air control
  

Troubleshooting

The following faults are monitored:

• Overspeed recognition
  
• Signal dynamically implausible
  

Consequence:

• Engine shuts down
