Interior lights

The interior lighting includes the functions

Brief description of components

Power module

The power module monitors the battery charge level and the open-circuit current consumption of the vehicle. In addition, the luggage compartment lid lock is controlled via the power module. Information is received and sent via the K-CAN PERIPHERALS data bus.

Light module

The light module controls and monitors the vehicle lights. Information is received and sent via the data bus K-CAN SYSTEM.

The faults of the xenon headlights are evaluated in the light module.

Interior lamp, front (E34) and rear (E108)

The interior lights are fitted in the roof and contain the functions:

Footwell lights, front left (E61) and right (E62)

The footwell lights are fitted in the side panels. The footwell lights are controlled in the same way as the front inside light.

Footwell lights, rear left (E63) and right (E64)

The footwell lights are fitted in the side panels. The footwell lights are controlled in the same way as the front inside light.

Boulevard light, front left (E154) and right (E155)

The lamps are fitted in the door handles. The light emitting diodes are controlled by the light module and are switched in parallel with the passenger-compartment lighting.

Boulevard light, rear left E154) and right (E155)

The lamps are fitted in the C-pillars. The light emitting diodes are controlled by the light module and are switched in parallel with the rear passenger-compartment lighting.

Lighting for make-up mirror, front left (E35) and right (E36)

The lighting for the make-up mirrors is built into the sun visor. The lamps are activated/deactivated by switches when the covers are slid open or closed.

Glove-compartment light (E42)

The glove-compartment light is fitted on the front right in the glove compartment. The glove-compartment light is switched on by a switch when the lid of the glove compartment is opened.

Bar compartment

The lamps for the bar compartment are fitted in the bar compartment at the top. The lamps are switched on by a switch when the bar compartment is opened.

Reading lights, rear left (E152) and rear right (E153)

The reading lights (bulbs) are switched on and off parallel to the reading lights in the interior lamp with a switch.

System functions

Operating the interior lighting

Operating with remote control:

When the independent heating is switched on using the radio-control key of the remote control, the front and rear interior lamps as well as the footwell lights are switched on for 3 seconds.
Signal path: CAS -> K-CAN PERIPHERALS -> Power module.
Switching on the interior lamps confirms that the independent heating has been switched on.

Operating with button:

The button in the front interior lamp can be used to select the following functions: switching on, switching off and automatic control of the interior lights.

Independently of this, the button in the rear-compartment interior light can be used to switch to ”continuous light on/off” because the bulb is additional supplied with AV.

Brightness control of the instrument lighting and direct light

The basic brightness of the instrument lighting is measured in the instrument cluster. The basic brightness can be reduced by the potentiometer by 10 % by means of the interior lighting dimmer in the light switch. Parallel to this, the brightness of the direct light is changed.

Control of the interior lights

The automatic control of the interior lights is dependent on a number of switch-on and switch-off conditions.

Switch-on conditions:

Switch-off conditions:

If the interior lights are switched off using the button when a door is open, when this door is closed once the automatic function takes effect once again.

Dimmed switching on and switching off of the interior lighting

The dimmed switch-on increases the brightness of the interior lights from 10 % to 96 %. The dimmed switch-off decreases the brightness of the interior lights from 96 % to 10 %. If the interior light is switched on using the button on the front interior lamp, this function takes effect in the front and rear. If the button on the rear interior lamp is pressed, the function is switched off and the rear passenger-compartment lighting is switched to full brightness. The function can be deactivated via coding.

Load deactivation

The following lights can be switched on when the vehicle is parked:

If lamps are switched on for a long period, the vehicle battery discharges. For this reason, the power module switches all lamps of the vehicle off approx. 15 minutes after switching off the ignition (terminal R Off, IB, VA_K, VA_D off).

At terminal R or terminal 15, the interior lighting is switched on again or if there is a signal change at the power module: for example, opening a door, opening the engine bonnet, unlocking a door.

Interior lighting in an emergency

If the ISIS system detects a crash:
the interior lighting is switched on (continuously dimmed) after approx. 1 minute for the emergency. Illuminating the inside of vehicle supports any rescue work that might be required.
The interior lighting is switched off by:
