Starter motor software function, conditions required for switch-on:

The software function calculates the conditions that lead to or inhibit switching the starter motor on or off. Here, a distinction is made between semi-automatic and fully automatic starts. Only when all the conditions required for switch-on have been pronounced valid is the starter motor activated / supplied with current.

The influences on how the starter motor is supplied with current can include:

• State of terminal 50 as well as unlocked electronic immobilizer [EWS] (networking with CAS)
  
• System defects
  
• Signal states of starter motor request and engine co-ordinator (internal control module calculation)
  
• The signal state of the automatic engine start-stop [MSA] (internal control module calculation), if present, decides on an engine start
  

Starter motor software function, switch-off conditions:

Comparable with the conditions required for switch-on, switch-off conditions also influence how the starter motor is supplied with current. The power supply is terminated or prevented if, among others, the following influences are present:

• The starter is locked by the electronic immobilizer [EWS] (see above)
  
• The control module is in after-run
  
• The signal state starter motor request (see above) is not present or no longer present
  
• There is no starter release from the transmission
  
• The maximum starter motor time has been exceeded
  
• The signal state of the automatic engine start-stop [MSA] (see above), if present, decides on an engine shutdown
  
• System defects (power management, battery, hardware faults, etc.)

For its part, this electromechanical component meets the high requirements with regard to service life, start time and start acoustics.

Note:

Vehicles that are equipped with the automatic engine start-stop [MSA] have a mechanically optimized starter motor that has been conceived to support higher operating loads. It is activated in the same way as a conventional starter motor.
