Operational test of coach door lock
On the Rolls-Royce RR01, the coach door lock ensures that the rear doors cannot be opened from the inside while the vehicle is being driven.
If one of the behind doors is opened, the vehicle cannot be driven faster than 25 km/h.
Checking with vehicle stationary:
It can be checked whether the child lock motor in the lock, which mechanically disengages the inside door handle from the lock, is working correctly or whether this operation can also be undone.
Initial situation:
- Vehicle stationary
- Terminal R set
- the rear doors can be opened from the inside
- the rear doors are closed
Procedure:
- Pressing the ”child safety lock” button on the switching center for the driver's door (LED in the button now lights up) engages the coach door lock (the two rear locks click).
- Pulling the inside door handles on either of the rear doors does not open them.
- Pressing the button again (LED goes out) only enables disengagement of the coach door lock.
- Pulling the inside door handle of the door to be opened disengages the inside door handle (it clicks) and the door can be opened.
Checking with vehicle moving:
What is checked is whether the coach door lock is engaged automatically when the vehicle is being driven or whether driving faster than 25 km/h with an open door is excluded.
Initial situation:
- Vehicle stationary
- Engine running
- the rear doors are closed
Procedure:
- The vehicle is accelerated.
- If 4 km/h is exceeded, the coach door lock is engaged (it clicks).
- Pulling the inside door handle does not open the door (both doors).
- Brake vehicle to a standstill.
- Pulling the inside door handle of the door to be opened disengages the inside door handle (it clicks) and the door can be opened.
What is checked is whether driving faster than 25 km/h with an open door is excluded.
Initial situation:
- Vehicle stationary
- Engine running
- One rear door or both rear doors are open.
Procedure:
- The vehicle is accelerated.
- The message ”Door open” appears in the instrument cluster.
- If 4 km/h is exceeded, the coach door lock is engaged.
- The message ”Electronics fault” appears in the instrument cluster.
- The vehicle is decelerated.
- The message ”Parking brake activated” appears in the instrument cluster.
- The vehicle moves at less than 6 km/h and then accelerates again.
- When exceeded once again, the braking starts once again.
NB:
The value 6 km/h is the road-speed value on the CAN bus. Due to the instrument activity, it will not be possible to monitor this value exactly in the instrument cluster.
Warning:
The stronger the acceleration or the stronger the accelerator pedal is pressed (especially in the case of kick-down) the more dramatic is the difference between braking and accelerating. In this case, loose objects in the vehicle must be secured or held tightly!
