Dynamic Stability Control MK60 for E87

The E87 is equipped with Dynamic Stability Control MK60. The DSC MK60 in the E87 corresponds to the fundamental principle of the DSC MK60 in the E85.

Diagnosis instructions

An internal brake pressure sensor replaces the two brake pressure sensors on the main brake cylinder. This brake pressure sensor cannot be replaced separately.

The hardware and software of the control unit have been adapted to the vehicle circuit structure.

The software of the control unit can be updated when required by authorised dealerships in compliance with strict security and procedure rules.

For Condition Based Service, the brake lining wear is determined by the DSC control unit. The brake pad wear sensor are therefore designed in two stages.

Faults in the steering column switching centre (SZL) are sent across the F-CAN to the DSC and stored in the DSC control unit.

The control unit functions for the SZL can be called up via the DSC control unit.

Sequence for replacement of DSC unit or DSC control unit

After replacement of the DSC unit or of the DSC control unit, the following work is to be performed in the following order:

  1. Coding DSC
On code the DSC, vehicle-specific data records are selected (e.g. size of the brakes). At the same time, the data for coding for the steering column switching centre is stored and transferred across the F-CAN to the SZL. This means that if the SZL is replaced the DSC control unit also has to be coded (as of 12/04). Without successful coding, no calibration of the steering-angle sensor is possible.
Even if there are faults in the DSC, coding is normally possible.
  2. Calibration of steering-angle sensor
The zero point of the steering-angle sensor, the vehicle identification number and the serial number of the SZL are stored.
  3. Calibration of DSC unit
The internal brake pressure sensor is calibrated.
There must not be any faults that concern the brake pressure sensor.
  4. Venting routine for DSC unit
  5. Check for swapped brake lines
  6. Initialise Run Flat Indicator (see owner's manual)

Sequence for replacement of the DSC sensor

After replacement of the DSC sensor, the service function ”Calibration DSC sensor” must be run. The transverse acceleration sensor is calibrated in the DSC sensor.

Notes on the steering-angle sensor

The steering-angle sensor forms a unit with the steering column switching centre. It cannot be replaced alone. The service function ”Calibration of steering-angle sensor” must be run after the following work:
