Slide/tilt sunroof (SHD)

The electric slide/tilt sunroof enables opening, closing and lifting the glass roof placed in the roof opening.

Brief description of components

Slide/tilt sunroof (SHD module)

The following components are integrated in the sliding/tilting sunroof module:

The electronics unit controls and monitors all the electrical functions of the slide/tilt sunroof. It is connected to the system CAN bus.

Hall sensors are integrated in the SHD module to detect the mechanical positions.

Operating buttons

There are three control buttons (Close, Lift and Open) integrated in the front headlining. All three switches have two switching functions. Pressing for a longer period moves the slide/tilt sunroof manually (roof moves as long as the switch is operated). Brief touching enables an automatic function sequence (roof moves automatically up to the end position). Pressing the button again during the automatic run immediately interrupts the roof movement

The control buttons are connected to the sliding/tilting sunroof module by cables.

There is no panic mode!

Anti-trapping protection

To prevent injury due to trapping, anti-trapping protection is active both in the manual and automatic control procedure towards ”Close”. The anti-trapping protection is designed in such a way that in the case of a defined blocking the motion of the sunroof is interrupted independent of the temperature and vehicle voltage. In addition, the sunroof is opened a little to release the blocking.

A requirement for faultless operation of the anti-trapping protection is that the slide/tilt sunroof has been initialised (see chapter on service functions).

Service functions

Initialisation

The initialisation of the slide/tilt sunroof consists of the following events:

Procedure

Initialisation is to be performed as follows:

The button must remain pressed during the entire procedure. If the button is released, the procedure must be repeated.

Important

To ensure that the anti-trapping protection functions reliably, a re-initialisation must be run without fail after any kind of repair work on the slide/tilt sunroof!

If the slide/tilt sunroof has been moved mechanically by means of the emergency control, it is necessary to rerun the standardisation, i.e. the learning of the end position ”Lift”.

Here, the ”Lift” position must be pressed at the control button. After 15 seconds, the drive runs to the ”Lift” position. Once the end position has been reached, the button can be released.
