When driving over a poor road surface or uneven roadway, rattling noises can emerge from the side area of the roof panel.
Tolerances in the linkage.
Open the door window by a small gap (5 mm). If the noise disappears, the cause is something else. In this case, work through the following repair instruction regarding the rattling side window
1. Open the convertible top until the position shown is accessible. See Fig. 1.
2. Undo and remove both the screws (A) and support (B). See Fig. 2 and Fig. 3.
3. Insert a shim (C) under the support. See Fig 3.

The customer complains about a rattling noise from the area of the rear side window while the vehicle is being driven. In individual cases, a hard slamming noise can occur on closing the rear side window.
When the rear side windows are opened by a small gap (approx. 5 cm), the noise is no longer present.
Vehicles in the production period 01.04.2004 - 12.08.2005.
Possible cause is a broken window seal on the convertible top frame. This means that the top mounting bolt can come loose and collide with the side window. See Fig. 1.
Replace the rear seal in accordance with repair instruction RA5434343. Also replace the top mounting bolt.
In order to be able to fit the new mounting bolt in the seal holder, the present thread must be reduced in size from M5 to M4 by fitting a helicoil insert. See Fig. 2.
Use the seals repair kit.
For vehicles as of production week 32/2005, modified seals have been fitted.
