The customer complains about loud rattling noise from the roof frame.
The noise occurs on uneven roadways and with the convertible top completely closed.
If the source of the noise is found at the area marked in Fig. 1, a possible cause is rattling of the interlock stone.
During a test drive, find the interlock stone in the convertible top and hold it down lightly with your fingers. See Fig. 2. If this removes or reduces the noise, proceed as follows.
1. Open the convertible top as wide as shown in Fig. 3.
2. Removes the outer cover for roof frame in line with repair instructions RA5434357.
3. Measurements must then be made. The reference point for this is shown in Fig. 4.
4. From the reference point, measure 48 mm in the direction of travel. See Fig. 5.
5. Measure 6 mm downwards from the top edge. See Fig. 6.
6. From the outside, apply a peening tool to the point determined in this way and make a centre mark. See Fig. 7.
The centre mark is intended to reduce the play of the interlock stone by deforming the sliding rail.
Do not apply the centre mark too heavily. If excessive force its used, it is possible that the interlock stone can jam in this position! It is recommended to apply the centre mark with only a little force, to check the efficiency of the repair and, if necessary, to repeat it.
After the repair, ensure that the sliding roof functions in full. Check the repair in a test drive and reassemble the vehicle.
