The Audio Display Panel (ADP) is the operation and display unit for the audio, video and TV functions.
The Audio Display Panel (ADP) incorporates an LC display, control elements and a CD player.
Some control elements are firmly wired to the Audio System Controller (ASK). The remaining control elements and the LC display are connected by data bus to the Control Display (CD).
The Audio Display Panel (ADP) supports the ”keyless” audio system function as of terminal 30. The Audio Display Panel (ADP) is a node on the K-CAN SYSTEM data bus and on the MOST bus.
The ASK Audio System Controller manages all the audio signals of the TOP HiFi audio system. The Audio System Controller is the network and timing master in the MOST network.
The MOST bus (Media Oriented Systems Transport) links the audio, video and navigation systems. Information relating to function requests is transmitted to the relevant control units by means of MOST bus messages.
The K-CAN SYSTEM data bus is the data connection between the instrument cluster and the control units in the chassis and suspension, drive and body sections. Information is exchanged with data telegrams.
The Audio Display Panel (ADP) can assume the following operating states:
There is no functional difference between a brief press and a long press on the buttons on the Audio Display Panel (ADP).
No separate station-search function for music radio stations is available in any audio mode.
Search forwards/backwards: Pressing the Forwards or Backwards key triggers a station-search function in the selected direction. With ”Search forwards”, the search runs from a lower to a higher value. With ”Search backwards”, the search runs from a higher to a lower value.
When a Forwards/Backwards key is pressed, the Audio System Controller (ASK) sends a change in status via data bus to the Control Display (CD). The Control Display identifies the currently active audio source and sends a telegram to the relevant control unit. The telegram contains the request to run a function from the following table.

* USA: Weather Band
** Japan: Traffic Information; flashing display if Traffic Program (TP) is selected and no TP data is being received.
Eject: Pressing the eject button causes the CD holder to move out of the CD drive slot. The function is not dependent on the current status of the control unit.
Switching on and off / Setting the volume:
Rotary motion on the Volume rotary pushbutton creates status changes on the Audio System Controller (ASK). The Audio System Controller (ASK) sends the changes in status as bus telegrams via data bus to the Control Display (CD). The Control Display (CD) identifies the currently active audio source and sends a telegram to the Audio System Controller (ASK). The telegram contains information on the level of the volume to be adjusted and the active source. This information is also sent to the Top hi-fi amplifier. The Top hi-fi amplifier controls the volume at the speakers in accordance with the information.
For each activation of a key, the Audio Display Panel (ADP) creates a K-CAN telegram. Via the Control Display (CD), each K-CAN telegram is transferred into a MOST telegram. The MOST telegrams are processed by the Control Display (CD) and the corresponding function is activated in the Audio System Controller (ASK).
The preset buttons 1 to 6 on the Audio Display Panel (ADP) can be assigned certain functions by means of programmable processes. Pressing a preset button then starts the function assigned to that button. The assignment options of buttons 1 to 6 can be seen from the table.

WB (Weather Band), TRAF (Traffic Program, TP), DVD and TV can only be activated using MTC via the Control Display (CD). When the functions are active, the source information (e.g. RTL II) is shown on the ADP display.
In the DVD mode, the preset buttons only work if a formatted DVD disc is in the allocated DVD changer magazine slot. If this is the case, the buttons can be used to switch from DVD disc to DVD disc.
In the DVD mode, all CD formatted discs are ignored. The allocated button has no function.
In TV mode, the preset buttons have no function.
How the radio frequency bands can be used depends on
When switching over between audio modes and frequency bands, the audio source last used in the mode or band is started. If a disc has been removed in the meantime, the next reachable disc is selected. If this is not possible, NO DISC or NO MAG is displayed.
If the use of audio source data recorded earlier is not possible, proceed in accordance with the settings specified in the table.

Explanations: Pre1 = Preset button 1
If the FM mode is active, pressing the FM button again is ignored.
Multiple pressing of the CD button is ignored if no CD or DVD changer is fitted. No text is shown on the ADP display.
If a CD or DVD changer is fitted, nut no magazine has been inserted, when the CD button is pressed CDC NO MAG or DVD NO MAG is displayed briefly.
The mode button detects multiple pressing of the CD button and permits rapid changeovers between the CD modes. Pressing the CD button twice in quick succession switches from radio to CDC mode. The mode is shown immediately on the ADP display.
On the LC display of the Audio Display Panels (ADP), the display is from left to right: Audio source e.g. FM3, information on the audio source, e.g. BAYERN 3 and TP status (Traffic Program).
The Control Display (CD) receives and correlates all the relevant ADP display text information from sources of information such as tuner, CDC and DVD. The corresponding texts are transferred for display with MOST telegrams.
On the Audio Display Panel (ADP), the surrounding brightness is determined by means of a light sensor. In unfavourable lighting conditions, the brightness setting (dimmer) on the LC display is changed automatically.
Manual station setting can only be triggered by means of the MTC via the Control Display (CD). If the manual setting has been selected, then the current frequency or station name is shown on the Central Information Display (CID), the display unit of the Control Display (CD) and on the Audio Display Panel (ADP). During the setting procedure, the rapidly changing frequency displays are only shown on the Central Information Display (CID). By turning the MTC, K-CAN telegrams are sent to the Control Display (CD). On the basis of the telegrams, the frequency display is updated immediately on the Central Information Display (CID). During this, MAN SEARCH is displayed on the Audio Display Controller (ADP). As soon as no more frequency changes occur, the same frequency or the same station name as on the Central Information Display (CID) is displayed on the Audio Display Controller (ADP).
On the multifunction steering wheel (MFL), the following functions can be operated:
There is no functional difference between a brief press and a long press on the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL).
The Audio Display Panel (ADP) has diagnostic capability (KW2000 diagnosis)
Checks of the ADP CD mode functions with fault display can be carried out with:
A check of the displays on the ADP display can be run during an automatic station-search with: ADP ”Display Text” content during tuner automatic search.
