Gear selector switch (gear lever)

The gear selector switch (selector lever) enables the engagement of the individual drive positions or gears (Steptronic function). The selector-lever position is transferred to the gearbox by means of a cable. The engaged drive position is shown visually via the shift-indicator illumination.

Brief description of components, gear selector switch

The following positions of the selector lever are possible:.

Shiftlock function (selector lever interlock)

The shiftlock function ensures that a powershift position is engaged. To shift from position P to position R or from position N to position D, the brake pedal must be operated. If this is not done, the selector lever is blocked. The selector lever is also blocked in position P or N if the engine speed is too high. The selector lever is only enabled again by the brake operation when the engine speed is back in the right range. The blocking is executed by a locking pawl activated by the shiftlock solenoid valve. The shiftlock solenoid valve and locking pawl are integrated in the gear selector switch. The solenoid valve interlock is activated by the gearbox control.
