Gear selector switch (gear lever)
The gear selector switch (selector lever) enables the engagement of the individual drive positions or gears (Steptronic function). The selector-lever position is transferred to the gearbox by means of a cable. The engaged drive position is shown visually via the shift-indicator illumination.
Brief description of components, gear selector switch
The following positions of the selector lever are possible:.
- Position P (Park): Enables start of the engine
- Position R (Reverse)
- Position N (Neutral): Enables starting of the engine; towing of the vehicle only possible in this position
- Position D (Drive): Automatic program
- Position M/S (Manual/Sports setting):
When the selector lever is in the position M/S, the gearbox is in the automatic Sport program. Pulling the selector lever back in this position causes an upshift to the next-highest gear. Pushing the selector lever forward in this position causes a downshift to the next-lowest gear. The M/S position is notified to the gearbox control by the M gutter switch directly via line (signal name: EGS_MGE or EGS_MGA). The M gutter switch is integrated in the gear selector switch. The selector-lever settings of the Steptronic function for upshifting or downshifting the individual gears are notified to the gearbox control directly via line (signal names: EGS_UP; EGS_Down).
Shiftlock function (selector lever interlock)
The shiftlock function ensures that a powershift position is engaged. To shift from position P to position R or from position N to position D, the brake pedal must be operated. If this is not done, the selector lever is blocked. The selector lever is also blocked in position P or N if the engine speed is too high. The selector lever is only enabled again by the brake operation when the engine speed is back in the right range. The blocking is executed by a locking pawl activated by the shiftlock solenoid valve. The shiftlock solenoid valve and locking pawl are integrated in the gear selector switch. The solenoid valve interlock is activated by the gearbox control.
