In principle, the oil-pressure switch serves to detect the oil level in the engine.

The internal control unit software application of the oil-pressure switch serves to record the digital input signal of the oil pressure, as well as to activate the digital output signal of the oil-pressure switch. The internal control unit evaluation leads to detection of the oil level.

The following applies in general: to prevent activation of the oil-pressure indicator lamp in the event of very strong braking, in the starting operation of the engine and also during the control unit after-run the signals of the oil-pressure switch are ignored in these operating points.

Service instructions and component information: Oil-pressure switch

A two-pin temperature sensor is fitted in the present engine. The installation location is at the front of the engine between the diesel particle filter and the alternator. The switch / sensor consists of a brass alloy and can deal with pressure readings between 0 and 10 bar.

Diagnosis instructions:

To check the functionality of the switch, the test module <Oil supply> / <Oil-pressure switch> and also the control unit function <States> / <Oil-pressure switch> can be used. If different statuses are not returned in the two scenarios of filled / non-filled engine, it is highly likely that there is a cable or component defect. In the case of critical oil levels (minimum or maximum) as well as detection of a deficient oil viscosity, fault code memory entries are set.
