The seat occupation detection consists of a mat on which pressure-sensitive sensors are fitted. In addition, the mat has a hard-wire connection to an electronic evaluation unit. The weight classification is based on evaluating the impression created by the person when taking their seat. The seat occupation detection cannot measure weights. Due to the activation of individual cells of the sensor mat, a weight class is determined by the electronic evaluation unit. The following weight classes are defined:
The electronic evaluation unit sends cyclical information on the classification to the MRS control unit.
The seat occupation detection is supplied with voltage via terminal R. Data exchange between the seat occupation detection and the MRS control unit is across the K bus. The seat occupation detection monitors the inputs and outputs. Possible fault states are stored in the fault code memory of the MRS control unit.
If there is a defect in the seat occupation detection, the seat mat including foam part must be replaced. After replacement of the seat mat, the fault code memory of the MRS control unit contains the following entry: ”Seat occupation mat, passenger:not released”. After replacement of the seat occupation mat, the seat mat must be released. The test program for release is located at:
All work on the airbags must be carried out with the battery disconnected!
